Kate Greenway

Artist/Educator/Author
Watercolour, Mixed Media, Glass – Fused, Stained, Mosaic

Kate is happy to be a relatively new member of the Richmond Hill Group of Artists.

Kate creates most often in watercolour, and in glass – fused, stained and mosaic – frequently combining mixed media and photo-transfer elements. Her favorite subjects to paint are flora, fauna, and landscapes, where she tends to work representationally; in glass, she leans more to abstract expression or thematically linked pieces. Most recently she is experimenting with collage, and adding dimensional pieces to her paintings. Works range from decorative paintings, glass panels, and pet portraits, to more practical items such as garden stepping stones and fused glass votive candle holders.

In my work, light and transparency are key. I am fascinated by the way watercolour and glass can carry literal and metaphoric weight in their ability to be transparent, translucent or opaque, allowing us to consider what we can see through, see beyond to, or not see.”

Kate completed a Masters and Ph.D. in Arts Education with both projects including original glass art: her award-winning Holocaust themed Masters work was acquired by the Holocaust Speakers’ Survivors’ Bureau in the Bronx, New York, and her Ph.D. was complemented by the solo show “Ephemera: The Searchings of an Adopted Daughter” with works in glass and paper. Additionally she has published many scholarly journal articles with accompanying glass artwork illustrations. Kate has exhibited in solo and group shows across Ontario and several states.

When not employed in artistic pursuits she can be found cooking, tending her gardens in her rural backyard, and snuggling with her beagles.
