Join artist Miriam Rosenthal for a one day intensive portrait painting workshop. In this workshop, participants will be working from photo references while learning an efficient and expressive approach to painting. In this shorthand/direct method of painting, students will be instructed step-by-step through the process of painting a “finished” portrait painting.

Students will start straight on the canvas with a dry brush drawing and follow that with placing colours and brushstrokes in a concise way that will achieve all the complexity and forms of the portrait. They will also experience how to play with thinner and thicker layers of paint to convey form and texture.

This workshop will leave the participant with more confidence painting in an expressive manner while still maintaining the look of an academic portrait painting.
