Join us this evening for an oil painting on copper.  Sadko will use a photographic reference to show us his process.

Sadko Hadzihasanovic’s artistic practice primarily revolves around portraiture, exploring themes of identity, culture, and social implications. He works with mixed media and collage, often incorporating references to popular culture. Hadzihasanovic’s notable stylistic approach involves a dedication to figurative painting, an interest in the ordinary man, and an affinity for experimentation with new technologies.

Sadko Hadzihasanovic studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, Bosnia, earned his MFA at the University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia (1984) and arrived in Canada in 1993. Since his arrival from Bosnia, Sadko has participated in over sixty exhibitions in public galleries and artist-run centres across Canada. He is the recipient of visual arts grants from Toronto Art Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. Sadko continues to explore identity, and its cultural and social implications, with an extensive portraiture-based body of work using mixed media and collage, and an array of references to popular culture.

 Sadko Hadzihasanovic’s first verified exhibition was Biennial of Young artists of Yugoslavia in Rijeka, in Croatia in 1981, and the most recent exhibition was Sadko Hadžihasanović: Bathers at Paul Petro Contemporary Art in Toronto, Ontario in 2026. Sadko Hadzihasanovic is most frequently exhibited in Canada, but also had exhibitions in Serbia, United States and elsewhere. Hadzihasanovic has also been in no less than 5 art fairs and in 4 biennials. A notable show was Sadko Hadžihasanović – The Icons at Mestna Galerija / City Art Gallery Ljubljana in Ljubljana in 2005. Other notable exhibitions were at UB Art Galleries – University of Buffalo in Buffalo, NY and International Print Center New York in New York City, National Gallery of Bosnia and Hercegovina in Sarajevo, Ulrich Museumof Art in Whichita, USA, MacMaster Museum of Art in Hamilton, Ontario, Art Gallery of Mississauga and University Gallery of Waterloo in Ontario in 2024. His upcoming solo shows are in Cultural Centre of Bosnia in Zagreb, Croatia, Graphic Collective in Belgrade, Serbia and MacLaren Art Center, in Barrie, Ontario

Sadko Hadzihasanovic’s art is in at least 6 museum collections, at Art Gallery of Hamilton in Hamilton, ON and MacLaren Art Center in Barrie, ON, Ulrich Museum in USA, Museum of Moden Art, Belgrade in Serbia, National Gallery of Bosnia and Hercegovina in Sarajevo among others.
