Azzy Hovetda

As a self-taught artist with over a decade of experience in oil, acrylic, and mixed media, I use my work to explore the interplay between reality and imagination. My art bridges the gap between the familiar and the fantastical, inviting viewers into layered narratives expressed through vivid colors, rich textures, and dreamlike compositions.

Surrealism is central to my practice, allowing me to construct otherworldly realms that feel both mysterious and deeply personal. I choose this approach because it compels viewers to look closer, question, and engage—almost like solving a puzzle. By blurring the line between what is real and imagined, I create a space where curiosity takes over, drawing the audience into the stories I want to tell.

I work instinctively, letting my materials guide me as I layer paint, incorporate unexpected elements, and build a unique visual language. Each piece is a journey—sometimes a glimpse into imagined landscapes, other times a reflection of emotions or abstract narratives.

At its core, my work is about storytelling and connection. I want to spark a sense of wonder, encouraging viewers to pause, interpret, and immerse themselves in the unknown. By engaging the imagination, I invite them to see beyond the surface and become part of the story themselves.

I try with every finished work to breath life into a forgotten world
so that its designs, ideas, innovations, and stories are displayed on my canvas.
And as Vincent van Gogh said: ” The only time I feel alive is when I’m painting.”
